This is an original acrylic painting in landscape format on stretched canvas.
The idea for the subject came from watching the pelicans scrounge for fish offal on the peer where the river runs from the lake to the ocean in Forster. The pelicans instinctively know when the latest catch is gutted and the fish stored in coolers and they wait watching for any titbits. The council have set up special tables and shelters and fresh water for the purpose of cleaning fish around the lakes and rivers.
This painting was inspired by various photos Sue had taken of the event, concentrating on the action in the foreground. In the background are the buildings on the Tuncurry side of the bridge. The figures in the painting are fabricated and bear no real resemblance to any Sue saw.
The sides of the painting are 4 cm deep and painted in blue black.
The painting is signed in full at the back of the painting.
There are D rings and a wire – ready for hanging.
