This is a large landscape of a local Brisbane park, where a huge Jacaranda tree dominates the scene. The river is visible behind hedges and trees and there are glimpses of buildings on the other side of the Brisbane River.
The scene is quite typical of various parks that dot the city of Brisbane area. There are people enjoying a walk as they go up the pathway around the tree. Sue took some photographs of the scene many weeks before painting this cameo. She wanted to show how lucky we are to live in such a region with tropical growth and abundance of colour. The painting is not only a record of a time and place but a scene in the life of everyday Brisbane with its wide-open spaces and beautiful parklands. Sue has painted this in an impressionist style and in landscape format.
