The Pub by Sue Hill
Sue was inspired to paint this interior after seeing a photo clipping in a newspaper about McDaids, in Harry Street (one of Irelands oldest pubs) Dublin City. This historical old pub is rich in character and history. The building once served as a morgue and a Moravian chapel. The narrow art deco interior has a decent-sized bar and the room is notable for its high ceilings. The walls are wood-panelled. The bar attracts both locals and visitors from around the world. It was a hub for mid-9thC literature. The writers have now moved on and it now hosts traditional Irish music at night.
Sue has painted the pub in portrait format and then added many more pub ‘patrons’ of her own making to the scene for interest and a more colourful effect. She has sealed the painting with semi-gloss medium. The sides are painted black. It is signed on the back and wired ready to hang.
