This is a mixed media painting in portrait format.
To prepare this painting, Sue primed the canvas by painting a yellow mother colour. When this had dried, she protected the sides of the frame with wide masking tape. The surface of the canvas was patterned with a mix of three free-flow colours plus pouring medium, which was scraped back. Once dry, another three colours plus pouring medium were applied to the surface and dried thoroughly for several days. Because the glossy paint surface resembled a flow of colour, like a flood, Sue decided to paint in an abstract landscape seen from seen from a bird’s eye point view. She was reminded of the miraculous floods that occur at Lake Eyre, in Australia’s vast interior, at certain times of the year. These floods suddenly bring the area to life and attract an abundance of insect and bird life. Sue decided to paint in pelicans with colours that mimicked those of the ‘flood’ to finish this painting. The surface is sealed with a gloss medium.
The sides of the painting are black and it is wired, ready for hanging. It is signed on the back of the painting.
