Ready for Sea

This is a bright scene of a single moored fishing boat in a small harbour of boats. The scene comes from a photographic reference that Sue took on a visit to Hout Bay in Cape Town many years ago. The little harbour is a hive of activity with plenty of boats coming and going and a fresh sea breeze. Seagulls and seals, although not in this painting await offal from the fishermen. In the background is a small beach behind the harbour wall and both commercial and residential buildings can be seen on the mountain behind. Sue began the painting with painting a mother colour of orange and gradually worked from the background to the foreground, eliminating and adding elements to the composition.
